FGC Athletics Weekend Recap

Men's Basketball

In a thrilling final regular-season home game at the Howard Center, the FGC Timberwolves faced off against the FSCJ Blue Wave, securing a hard-fought 78-73 victory. Despite a halftime deficit of 39-36, the Wolves rallied in the second half, led by sophomore Antewan Webber, who delivered a stellar performance with 26 points and 10 rebounds, marking his last game on the home court.  Axel Holmquist contributed 16 points, and Isaac Broxey added 13 to secure the crucial win.

The Blue Wave staged a late-game comeback, narrowing a 15-point second-half deficit to just three points. However, the Timberwolves fended off the challenge and took the win. The team's focus now shifts to the FCSAA DII Semifinal game against Palm Beach State at PBSC on Friday, April 1, at 6:30 p.m.

Women's Softball

The FGC Softball team played a dynamic series against St. Johns River State College, ultimately securing one win in the three-game faceoff. Friday's matchup proved to be a nail-biter, with a 4-2 loss in 10 innings to the SJRSC Vikings. The Wolves responded on Saturday, clinching a 1-0 victory in the first game.

Amanda Whalen's excellence on the mound earned her the FCSAA DII Softball Pitcher of the Week title, having pitched a four-hit shutout in the 1-0 win against SJR.  She maintained an impressive .73 WHIP over 11 innings.

Unfortunately, the Timberwolves fell short in the second game Saturday, losing 10-4. The team looks to bounce back in a doubleheader against Tallahassee Community College on Wednesday, with the first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m.

Women's Flag Football

The FGC Women's Flag Football team faced a challenging matchup against the Thomas University Night Hawks in Thomasville, GA. Despite a commendable defensive effort in the first quarter, the Timberolves found themselves trailing 7-0 in the second. Thomas University extended their lead to 13-0 after halftime, but the Wolves fought back, narrowing the gap to 13-7 with a timely score. Despite their efforts, the Night Hawks secured a 19-7 victory.

Looking ahead, the Timberwolves prepare for a doubleheader next Saturday, March 2. First up is a matchup against the Florida State University Seminoles (club team) with a 1 p.m. kickoff, followed by Pasco-Hernando State College at 4 p.m. at the FGC Flag Football Field.
