FGC Athletics Weekend Recap: Timberwolves Face Mixed Outcomes in Sun-Lakes Conference Battles

In a thrilling showdown for the Sun-Lakes Conference Championship this past Saturday, the FGC Timberwolves men's basketball squad battled the regular season titans, the FSCJ Blue Wave, ultimately succumbing to an 80-70 defeat. The Timberwolves secured a berth in the title matchup by edging out the hosts, Palm Beach State College, in a nail-biting 85-84 encounter.

Amayoa'ah Phillips emerged as a standout for the Timberwolves in the final, notching an impressive 21 points, while Antewan Webber commanded the boards with 11 rebounds. However, their valiant efforts weren't enough to thwart FSCJ's Tarence Guinyard, who lead the Blue Wave with a 25-point haul.

FGC finishes the season with a record of 19-12 overall and 7-5 in conference play. Both Phillips and Webber were named to the FCSAA/NJCAA Region 8 Division II All-Conference and All-Tournament Teams.

FGC Women's Softball Battles Through Weekend Series Against Lake-Sumter State College Lakehawks

The FGC Timberwolves women's softball team engaged in a grueling three-game series against formidable foes, the Lake-Sumter State College Lakehawks, over the weekend. Despite contending with injuries, the Timberwolves exhibited unwavering resolve in each contest.

Standout performances from Karis Smith and Grace Quincey, who each launched impressive home runs, provided glimpses of brilliance for the Timberwolves. However, their efforts fell short as they were unable to secure a victory in the series.

Undeterred, the Wolves anticipate their upcoming clash against Pasco-Hernando State College this Friday, where they aim to rebound on home turf at Jean Williams Field. First pitch is slated for 1 pm.
