Falcons Softball Starts Season 2-0

Florida Gateway took an early lead in the 1st inning, however, Daytona State quickly responded in the bottom half of the inning, when Morgan Davis hit a 2-run single that scored Azlynn Gomes and Veronica Puckett to put the Falcons ahead 2-1. The Falcons extended their lead in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Gabby Giugliano drove in a run with a single to left, Logan Ringel then scored on a Fielder's Choice and Giugliano would later score on a passed ball, pushing the Falcons ahead 5-1. Later in the same inning, Gomes had an RBI single, making the score 6-1. Daytona State put a few more runs on the board in the 3rd with a 2-RBI triple by Giugliano, scoring Lorelai (Butter) Ellerby and Katelyn Luna. Making the score 9-1 at the end of the 3rd inning. In the 4th inning, Katelyn Luna added another run with a groundout, scoring Gissel Morales to make it 10-1. From there, Alexis Miranda entered the game in relief, and the Falcons closed out the game with multiple strong defensive plays.
In Game two, Daytona State College got ahead early and started off strong in the second game while earning a 13-3 victory over Florida Gateway College. The Falcons showed up with a powerful offensive performance. Alexa Edmands led the charge with a 3 run homerun, while multiple key hits came from across the lineup. Kaylee Martineau and Bailee Riggins kept Florida Gateway's offense in check, allowing just 6 hits over 5 innings. They dominated in the circle as Martineau earned the win, pitching 4 innings, allowing 3 hits and 1 unearned run while striking out 3. Riggins came in to close and finished the game strong, giving up 3 hits but only 1 earned run in her inning of work.

The game got off to a quick start in the 1st inning as Daytona State took the lead. Alexa Edmands drove in Logan Ringel with a single, followed by Morgan Davis' RBI single which brought Edmands across the plate, putting the Falcons ahead 2-0. Florida Gateway College responded in the 2nd inning, narrowing the gap to 2-1. However, Daytona State answered with a strong second inning, adding 3 runs. Alexa Edmands' sacrifice fly and Azlynn Gomes' RBI single stretched the lead to 4-1, and a double by Morgan Davis further extended the lead to 5-1. The Falcons also continued their lead in the 3rd and 4th innings. Olivia McCroan's sac fly made it 6-1, and Lorelai (Butter) Ellerby added an RBI single in the 4th, scoring Ariana Garcia to make it 7-1. The scoring spree continued as Gissel Morales walked and Kennedy Carr hit a 2-RBI single, putting Daytona State up 10-1. Finally, Edmands' 3-run homer to left-center in the 4th inning put the finishing touches on Daytona State's 13-1 lead. Florida Gateway added 2 runs in the 5th inning, but it wasn't enough to mount a comeback.
Daytona State College will look to carry this momentum forward as they face Pasco-Hernando State College for a doubleheader on Tuesday.
